Concluding function of India Corporate Week 2009

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) ) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Concluding function of India Corporate Week 2009 on December 21,2009 at New Delhi. This mega event was the concluding function of the series of events organised by the various Institutions and organisation during the India Corporate week 2009 (Dec 14-21). The mega event had H.E Smt. Prathibha Devisingh Patil, President of India as the Chief Guest, who conferred recognition of excellence to CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, ICSI, ICAI and ICWAI and also released the Compendium on Corporate India 2009 and Voluntary Guidelines 2009 on CSR and Corporate Governance.

Seminar on Limited Liability Partnership

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Limited Liability Partnership on December 20,2009 at Jaipur. This was the third of the series of programmes being organised by ICSI in partnership with NFCG on LLP. The programme updated the knowledge of the participants on new LLP Act. It was focused on various aspect of LLP like Legal and Regulatory Framework; Taxation; Formation procedure; etc.

Seminar on Limited Liability Partnership

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Limited Liability Partnership on December 20,2009 at Bhuneswar. This was the second of series of programmes being organised by ICSI in partnership with NFCG on LLP. The programme provided overview on Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008. It focused on LLP as a Business Option covering the aspect of formation of LLP; Legal and Regulatory Framework and Taxation benefit for LLP.

Breakfast Session with Industry Representatives on Best Corporate Governance Practices

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Breakfast Session with Industry Representatives on Best Corporate Governance Practices on December 19,2009 at Bangalore. The Session focused on importance of Corporate Governance and its impact on the Economy and Society. Some of the important points highlighted during the panel discussion were: management led initiatives towards good governance, greater stress on transparency, development of established standards for corporate governance, development of an industry wide movement on corporate governance, need for increase of industry awareness & sensitivity towards risk management systems, evaluation of the basis on which corporate governance norms are prepared, as it is important to go beyond shareholder value and try to encompass aspects which impact all stakeholders – shareholders, investors, employees, extended community.

National Seminars on Corporate Governance

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in partnership with NFCG organized the National Seminars on Corporate Governance on December 19,2009 at Bhuvneswar. The theme of the seminar was 'Corporate Governance- Raising standards'. It focused on the issues related to importance of E- Governance in facilitating Corporate Governance; Global Financial Crisis- Lessons for Corporate Governance; Corporate Governance practices in Public Sector Enterprises, Role of the Regulators and the Board towards further improvements in India's Corporate Governance practices.

Seminar on Limited Liability Partnership

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Limited Liability Partnership on December 19,2009 at New Delhi. This event was first of series of programmes organised by ICSI in partnership with NFCG on LLP. The programme provided an overview on Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008 with specific focus on the various provisions of compliances under the Act, so as to inculcate the culture of good Governance Practice in the LLPs from beginning.

5th Corporate Governance Summit

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the seminar on 5th Corporate Governance Summit on December 18,2009 at Mumbai. This summit discussed the latest trends in corporate governance and brought forward the view points and experience of the Government, regulators and Industry on governance. The Summit had intensive interaction on the recommendations made in the CII Report on Corporate Governance on - enhancement of the effectiveness of Board of Directors, responsibilities of auditors for accuracy of financial statements, role of other stakeholders such as stock exchanges, institutional and private equity investors in improving corporate governance in the country.

Seminar on Sustainability Accounting and Reporting

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Sustainability Accounting and Reporting on December 16,2009 at Kochi. This programme highlighted the new developments in environmental accounting and the linkage between corporate environmental and sustainability issues, between strategy, measurement and information management, and also between accounting and reporting. It also provided a platform for the participants to understand the importance of Sustainability Reporting as a tool for g\good Corporate Governance measurement; Integrated Sustainability Performance Measurement, etc.

CFO Forum: “Corporate Governance – The New Strategic Imperative”

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on CFO Forum: “Corporate Governance – The New Strategic Imperative” on December 16,2009 at Ahmedabad. The Forum highlighted the latest trends in corporate governance and provided the platform for sharing the perceptions and experiences of the CFOs and CEOs on the governance practices and the new challenges for the industry. In addition, there were interaction on the report of the CII Task Force on Corporate Governance.

'CII Report on Corporate Governance – Recommendations for Voluntary Adoption': Discussion Session on CII Corporate Governance Code

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on 'CII Report on Corporate Governance – Recommendations for Voluntary Adoption': Discussion Session on CII Corporate Governance Code on December 15,2009 at New Delhi. The session had extensive deliberations on the CII Report titled 'Corporate Governance: Recommendations for Voluntary Adoption' with an objective to create awareness on the Voluntary measures and highlight the benefit of its adoption by stakeholders.

Breakfast Session with Industry Representatives on 'Going Beyond Compliance: Fostering a Culture of Good Governance'

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Breakfast Session with Industry Representatives on 'Going Beyond Compliance: Fostering a Culture of Good Governance'on December 14,2009 at Kolkata. The programme was the first event organised during the India Corporate Week 2009. The programme deliberated on CII Taskforce Recommendations on Corporate Governance and also on the Corporate Governance practices being followed by selected companies

CSR Meet 2009: The Emerging Business Model: Engaging Society, Enhancing Competitiveness

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on CSR Meet 2009: The Emerging Business Model: Engaging Society, Enhancing Competitiveness on December 3,2009 at Kolkata. This Meet was part of CII's ongoing work in sustainability and social development to enable business leaders to assess different strategies and practices that provide a competitive edge to businesses and the synergies the business plans and social goals so as to create replicable and scaleable models of growth and development in the social sector. This Meet provided for a platform for sharing successful case studies on how sustainability practices are becoming an integral part of business, how such initiatives provide competitive advantages, especially in the global market place and how they help in the long-term sustainability of the businesses. In addition, it provided an excellent platform for all the stakeholders – civil society institutions, exchange ideas and best practices and forge enduring relationships to promote the cause of sustainable development.

National Seminars on Corporate Governance

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in partnership with NFCG organized National Seminars on Corporate Governance on November 28, 2009 at Coimbatore. The Seminar focused on the issues relating to risk management, enhancement of role of Independent Directors; proactive Role of Board in improving the function of Companies; Corporate Governance practices in Family Owned Business & SME Sector.

Seminar on IFRS Summit- Are We Prepared ?

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on IFRS Summit- Are We Prepared? on November 28,2009 at Kolkata. The Summit facilitated in-depth discussion on the challenges faced from the convergence with IFRS and also provided an insight into the view point on IFRS of the government and companies that have already successfully made the transition into IFRS reporting.

4th Sustainability Summit: Asia 2009: "Winning Strategies for a Sustainable World"

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the seminar on 4th Sustainability Summit: Asia 2009: “Winning Strategies for a Sustainable World” on November 25-26,2009 at New Delhi. The Summit focused on how visionary business and institutions are turning crisis into opportunity to change the world into one that is sustainable and all-inclusive. The specific focus was on the elements of green economy created through clean technologies and infrastructure, technology development and innovation, better corporate governance, which are critical to business success for larger companies, SMEs and social enterprises.

IFRS Summit - Towards Enabling a Smooth and Successful Transition

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized the seminar IFRS Summit - Towards Enabling a Smooth and Successful Transition on November 25,2009 at New Delhi. The Summit facilitated in-depth discussion on the challenges faced from the convergence with IFRS and also provided an insight into the view point on IFRS of the government and companies that have already successfully made the transition into IFRS reporting.

Seminar on Preparing Board for 21st Century

Institute of Public Enterprises, Hyderabad in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Preparing Board for 21st Century on November 20-21, 2009 at Hyderabad. The Seminar was focused on - defining the dimension of future boards in the light of prevailing board practices; formulating criteria and performance measurement for constituting and functioning of board with special inputs on finance and integration of executives with enterprise; building core competencies for dynamic functioning of boards; and identifying the emerging issues affecting the boards functioning.

Convention on Corporate Risk Management Systems and Business Ethics

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized the seminar Convention on Corporate Risk Management Systems and Business Ethics on September 26,2009 at Lucknow The Programme created awareness among the participants on corporate risk being faced in today's environment. It focused on identification, measurement and mitigation of risks in a systematic manner so that Corporate Sustainability is ensured.

Seminar on Corporate Compliance Management

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized the Seminar on Corporate Compliance Management on September 6,2009 at Indore. The Seminar focused on the need for compliance in spirit. It emphasized on the onus responsibility of the Company Secretaries and other corporate professionals in guiding the Companies in adapting with the compliance regimes, so as to ensure protection to investors, shareholders and other stakeholders.

International Conference on Convergences of Corporate Governance Norms

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IITK) in partnership with NFCG organized the International Conference on Convergences of Corporate Governance Norms on September 5-6,2009 at Kolkata. The Conference brought together corporate executives, government officials, independent directors, market regulators, academicians and researchers from across the nations. It provided a platform to define-redefine issues and practices of Corporate Governance and also highlighted the best practices of CG and its universal characters, which may be adopted by the companies, in the backdrop of world economic meltdown.

Corporate Governance in SMEs

Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS) in partnership with NFCG organized Corporate Governance in SMEs on August 8,2009 at Nashik. The conference on Corporate Governance in SMEs focused on enhancing knowledge on important aspects of good Governance norms amongst the senior management and board members of SMEs.

Interactive Session with Mr. Salman Khurshid, Hon' able Minster for Corporate Affairs and minority affairs and Round table on Corporate governance

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized Interactive Session with Mr. Salman Khurshid, Hon' able Minster for Corporate Affairs and minority affairs and Round table on Corporate governance on July 4,2009 at New Delhi. The session focused on interaction between the Hon'ble Minister for corporate affairs and the senior representatives from Industry on the key corporate governance issues, post satyam saga.

International Conference on Global Economic Recession and Corporate Governance- Role of Governance professionals.

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership wit NFCG organized International Conference on Global Economic Recession and Corporate Governance - Role of Governance professionals on June 23,2009 at London. The International conference aimed to evaluate the initiatives taken by the developed and developing countries (particularly UK and India) to face global downturn; understand how different countries are trying to utilize corporate governance as a tool to minimize recessionary impacts; deliberate on developments in the area of corporate governance practices and the benefit of adoption of best CG practices as a way to ensure corporate sustainability; and lastly facilitate international corporation amongst governance professional. The outcome of the conference were formulation of a pro active approach towards compliance with corporate governance norms, enhancement of awareness of the participants on the different aspects of CG and identifying the role of governance professional in promoting good corporate governance practices.

Faculty Development Programme in Corporate Governance and Responsibility

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) in partnership with NFCG organized Faculty Development Programme in Corporate Governance and Responsibility on May 25-30,2009 at Bangalore. The six-day programme in Corporate Governance and responsibility on May25-26, 2009 at Bangalore, was aimed to provide a rigorous training inputs to assist participants enhance and enrich their knowledge and teaching skill in this field. The programme covered issues in corporate governance stakeholder management; business ;business and society; environment and sustainability etc. The approach throughout the programme was to encourage intra group learning and build on the participants strengths and expertise for common benefit.

Round table on Corporate Governance practices in medium sized family managed listed companies.

S P Jain Institute of Management & Research Studies, (SPJIMR) in partnership with NFCG organized Round table on Corporate Governance practices in medium sized family managed listed companies on April 27, 2009 at Mumbai. The research study on Corporate Governance with a focus on the issues facing the Family Managed Listed Companies and showcasing the best practice in Corporate Governance by selected companies. The study report was titled -'Showcasing Corporate Governance Best Practices by Medium Sized Family Managed Companies' including case studies of the three companies. Based on the study report, SPJIMR-NFCG organized the Roundtable on excellence in Corporate Governance -showcasing Corporate Governance Best Practices by medium sized family managed companies. The roundtable provided platform for discussion on the findings of this study and threw light on the role of company boards in family owned companies.

Regional Seminar - Series on Translating Governance Ideologies to Veracity

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NFCG organized Regional Seminar - Series on Translating Governance ideologies to Veracity on April 18, 2009 at Mumbai. The programme brought together corporate and finance professionals and facilitated a two day information flow-with corporate vision and principle flowing down from the management level and decoded systems and activities flowing upwards. The programme focused on translating corporate governance ideologies, values and concepts into pragmatic ground level doable activities with a focus on the legal framework of the company; and also provide simple yet efficacious tools to assimilate and implement a robust system that would enable the structuring of the legal function and to manage risks arising out of legal non companies.

National Moot Court Competition on problems related to Corporate Governance

National University of Law (NALSAR) in partnership with NFCG organized National Moot Court Competition on problems related to Corporate Governance on April 10,12,2009 at Hyderabad. The Moot Court Competition had participation of students from 13 leading law college of the country including ICSI (Ahd). This competition provided a platform for the students to present their views on the specific corporate Governance problem.

National Seminar on Corporate Governance

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in partnership with NFCG organized National Seminar on Corporate Governance at March 28, 2009 at Hyderabad. The seminar was the last of series seminar organised by ICAI-NFCG at various place across the country during this year with an aim to create awareness in good governance practices. This seminar focused on the Roles of Regulators and harmonizing the regulatory requirements with that of Companies Act for effective Corporate Governance; Role of the Board and Audit Committee in ensuring best corporate governance; Corporate Governance in Family owned Enterprise and SMEs; Corporate Governance practices in banking, Insurance Companies and Public sector undertaking and role of CA's in ensuring better CG.

National Seminar on Corporate Governance

IIM Calcutta in partnership with NFCG organized National Seminar on Corporate Governance - 'Corporate Governance at Cross Roads' on March 27 2009 at Kolkata. In the view of recent financial crisis and widespread feeling that the corporate governance model adopted by most countries has failed to deliver the desired results, this Conference aimed at reviewing the present Corporate Governance models and generate ideas on how to make the model more robust.. The Conference focused on topics like Corporate governance in the financial sector; Role and effectiveness of independent directors in the present corporate governance model; Role of the auditor and the audit committee in corporate governance; and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Directors Orientation Programme

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in partnership with NFCG organized Directors Orientation Programme on Corporate Governance on March 25, 2009 at New Delhi. The Orientation programme was the third of four series programmes being organised by ICSI-NFCG at various place across the country during this year with an aim to provide opportunity to Board members to deliberate upon intricate issues in the good Corporate Governance practice. The programme focused on the issues of need and importance of CG, Independent Director V. Directors independence; Changing paradigm in CG and Corporate ethics; Evolution of concept of CG and present regulatory framework; Directors roles, responsibility, duties, powers and liabilities; Audit Committee performance and effectiveness, etc.

Corporate Compliance Forum India

Lexis Nexis in partnership with NFCG organized Corporate Compliance Forum India on February 24-25, 2009 at Mumbai. This conference on Corporate Compliance focused on the latest development for Company Secretary practices both in India and globally; Monitoring System and implementation of dynamic risk strategies; Role of the Board of Directors; Case studies about Corporate Social Responsibility; Ethics and compliance culture; Detection and prevention of fraud; and Recent changes in business regulations.

Second National Conference on Corporate Governance
Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) in partnership with NFCG organized Second National Conference on Corporate Governance on February 9, 2009 at Mumbai. The Conference discussed how effectively the shareholders interest could be protected from the 'insiders' of corporation. Corporate Governance 2009 also focused on the dimensions of Corporate Governance and the lesson s we can learn from the experiences gained by both the Corporates and the regulators in the global arena. The Conference had two separate sessions, one dealing with the Corporate Governance from Global perspectives and other one dealing with the Corporate Governance with Indian Perspective. Further, the speakers from various countries also offered insight and explained from their experience in the internationally accepted best practices that are likely to benefit both the Corporates and the stakeholders.

4th Corporate Governance Summit: India's Tryst with Corporate Governance
CII in partnership with NFCG organized 4th Corporate Governance Summit: India's Tryst with Corporate Governance on February 5, 2009 at Mumbai. The recent events in the domain have really brought a number of serious Corporate Governance issues in the spotlight and also sparked a debate on whether India possess adequate laws and guidelines for corporate governance. Against this background this seminar provided a platform for deliberation and extensive interaction among the Govenment, regulators, Industry, professional and public at large on the issues of the role of the third party, Board (specially independent directors), promoters, management, Government and Regulators

Series on Translating Governance Ideologies & legal Function as Business Enablers
CII in partnership with NFCG organized first of the four series on Translating Governance Ideologies & legal Function as Business Enablers on January 16, 2009 at Kolkata. The session brought together corporate and finance professionals and facilitated a two-way information flow - with corporate vision and principle flowing down from the management level and decoded systems and activities flowing upwards. The session focused on translating corporate governance ideologies, values and concepts into pragmatic ground-level doable activities with a focus on the legal framework of the Company; and also provide simple yet efficacious tools to assimilate and implement a robust system that would enable the structuring of the legal function and to manage risks arising out of legal non-compliances.
